SUGAR SUGAR

My last post for this month comes from American folk-indie artist MARY LOU LORD. She recorded and covered the song Sugar, Sugar for the album called Saturday Morning Cartoon's Greatest Hits (1995). The song was originally done by The Archies in 1969.

It's a bubblegum pop song at heart - and one that I've like since i was a kid.

But in fairness to Ms. Lord, she did her own interpretation on the song which also features one of my favorite band, Semisonic.

Crystal Bowersox: Up to the Mountain

I am very sad that Mama Sox did not win. However, her voice will carry her so much farther than an "Idol" title. I am looking forward to see what the future holds for her.

AMERICAN IDOL 2010: LEE DEWYZE

The dark horse Lee DeWyze was crowned American Idol beating frontrunner soul singer Crystal Bowersox in one of the most stunning upsets in the show’s nine season history.

The 24-year-old guitarist won the coveted title and a recording contract after millions of Americans cast their votes for the bluesy guitarist.

A choked-up DeWyze accepted Ryan Seacrest's congratulations after the announcement and proceeded to sing his cover of "Beautiful Day," which will soon hit radio stations all over the world.

Introducing JOSEPH VINCENT

He was so incredibly talented!...got the voice, charm, the acoustic vibes, actually mas magaling nga sya kay Justin Bieber no? With the right person na hahandle sa kanyang career (calling Mr. David Foster!), im sure malayong mararating ng batang ito!

Anyway, check nyo ang ilan sa favorite kong song covers nya:

RUDE BOY (Rihanna cover)

OMG (Usher cover) ala-craig david ang rendition nya dito

Art of Chaos: Hide and Seek

ART OF CHAOS is an alternative rock band from Los Angeles, California. Led by Brian Torres (vocals, guitar), the band's got their strong television exposure when they won in MTV2 Battle of the Bands in 2007.

They continue to get waves in the music scene that even Linkin Park personally asked them to join in their Project Revolution tour. They also
performed gigs with more mainstream bands like My Chemical Romance, H.I.M. and Taking Back Sunday.

AOC is known for their live and energetic performances but with their rendition of IMOGEN HEAP'S Hide and Seek, the take was so relaxing and i really like the atmospheric background underlay. It's an awesome cover actually!

CRAZY for KEVIN HAMMOND

If you like the bluesy sounds of Jack Johnson or the acoustic vibes of Matt Nathanson, you might also like up and coming singer/songwriter KEVIN HAMMOND.

He has a unique sound of his own and delivers
a soulful blend of folk rock with pop sensibility that begs for more spin of his music. I heard that he's currently gearing up his first full length album (under A&M/Octone) due out later this year.

For now, check out Hammond's cover of Gnarls Barkely's Crazy, which is a cut from his self-titled EP in 2009.

You can also visit his MySpace Profile here.

Special thanks also to Rockridgemusic for this track. :D

Another amazing cover song performed by "Sunny came home" singer/songwriter SHAWN COLVIN. Her guitar, vocals and arrangement are absolutely incredible!

PINK NASTY: BURN (Usher cover)

BURN
was Usher's number-one single from his 2004 smash hit album 'Confessions', and the original was a breakup smooth r&b ballad. The song was covered by PINK NASTY or Sara Beck in real life, a folk singer who lives in Austin, Texas.

I dont know a ton about this artist but here, she did an interesting take on the song, from a female perspective. It has a country-twang feel to it! The instrumentation is quite lush, and her vocals s
ounded both vulnerable & honest.

The unpolished feel of it somehow made it more enjoyable. Overall, nicely done...Worth giving a listen.

You can check out PINK NASTY's MySpace profile for streams of her music.

Meet THE BASEBALLS

New wine on old bottles and I like it
!..

Sometimes a cover is much better than the original song, and this is a good example.

Who are these dudes anyway?--THE BASEBALLS are a German band founded in 2007 and become popular in covering modern pop songs with an energetic 50’s twist. Their style might be a bit gimmicky, but you’ll find it hard not to jive along, take for example with their awesome rendition of Rihanna’s UMBRELLA.

You can visit their official website here: www.thebaseballs.com

ALL AHMIR

AHMIR
caught my attention when I first heard their rendition of Taylor Swift's Today was a fairytale and I’ve been a fan ever since.
I would say that they are the Boyz II Men of this century- soulful, flawless voice and has a great magical harmonies. Actually, they got voted the #1 popular R&B group on YouTube when they post their song covers.

To know how great they are, listen to some of their songs below:

NEED YOU NOW (Lady Antebellum cover) this is what u got when a country song turn it into rnb...

DOESNT MEAN ANYTHING (Alicia Keys cover) great cover

Hopefully, a major label will take notice and sign AHMIR so the world can hear their music.

BLEEDING LOVE...

I don't care what they say, I'm in love with you
They try to pull me away but they don't know the truth
My heart's crippled by the vein that I keep on closing

You cut me open...

Happy Birthday, LILY!!

British pop singer Lily Allen turns 25 today, Sunday May 2. Despite announcing her retirement in music last year,
it seems that Allen won’t be disappearing completely after she decided to position herself in the fashion world.

She isn’t new to fashion anyway. Last July, she has launched her own jewelry collection, a clothing line called
Lily Loves and hopefully this year, she's going to start her own fashion reality TV show in UK. And of course, Lily is still the face of Chanel's Coco Cocoon collection which is a great achievement.

In tribute to Lil, listen to her own share of cover songs below:

EVERYBODY'S CHANGING (Keane cover) cute version

IM OUTTA TIME (Oasis cover) didn't thought it would be good at first, but I'm actually quite pleasantly surprised. I think she did an amazing job on this one.

OH MY GOD (Jars of Clay cover) i fell in love with lily a long time ago but this just makes me love her even more

DON'T GET ME WRONG (The Pretenders cover) luv this. very current version.

NAIVE (The Kooks cover)
i like the kooks version better but this was just mellow enough to pull me in

WOMANIZER (Britney Spears cover) better than the original!
